Somewhere West of the Rockies

Somewhere west of the Rockies

you will enter barren land;

my lawn is clothed in sagebrush,

not to mention desert sand.

Some people call it a desert

some say it's “Dry as a bone”,

but I think it is beautiful

and now I call it “home”.

Welcome to my oasis,

I hope you like what you see;

for the very Hubs you read here,

are the very best of me.

Thank you for stopping by

and for lending me your ear;

I value your opinions, too,

because they are so dear.

Come join me by my fire
Come join me by my fire

Please feel free to kick off your boots

and join me by my fire;

where we can enjoy honest dialog,

if you so desire.

So, together let us reason,

I know we can make a link;

so pull up a chair, let down your hair

and tell me what you think.

My views may be controversial

and may be hard to swallow,

but I am kind and loving at heart

and not the least bit shallow.

The topics I choose to discuss here,

I hope you find them smart;

some I researched thoroughly,

while others came from the heart.

I will try to be a gentleman,

even-tempered and soft,

but I know there will be times

when I really piss you off.

My purpose is not to be offensive

I do not wish to be uncouth;

I am just a lonely soul

who is looking for the truth.

Forgive me for my candor

I know I come on strong,

but if you want a friend in me

you won't be waiting long.

My name means "intrepid"

or he who is "bold",

so please do not be offended

nor allow your heart to grow cold.

Please don't let this happen to you
Please don't let this happen to you

I may like to laugh and play

but I'm not a circus clown;

when it comes to defending the faith

I'll slam my hammer down.

Some say that I am friendly;

you may think I am kind,

but if you choose indecency,

I bet I can change your mind.

But should you want to argue

and if you're filled with spite,

please know I wield a sledgehammer

and will bring it down forthright.

Was it something I said, my dear?
Was it something I said, my dear?

You may not like what I stand for,

you may not like what I say;

but I must kneel before God's throne

on His great Judgement Day.

My words may not be agreeable,

some may be hard to hear,

but I intend to speak the truth

instead of tickling the ears.

Just follow the setting sun

My credo is "Question Everything",

I do not trust the press;

until I find truth and decency

my mind can never rest.

So, if you are feeling lonely

or if you need a hand,

don't hesitate to call on me,

a gentle and loving man.

Should you want to find me,

I will tell you how it's done;

turn west when you come to the Rockies

and then follow the setting sun.

Thank you, nighthag, for your encouraging response.

If I am not mistaken, you have the dubious honor of being the first person to leave me a response as I begin my Hubpage career. I cannot promise you this factoid will end up in the next edition of "Trivial Persuit", but I am thankful for your kind words and support nonetheless!

OK CJ, I will just have to be content with coming second!

Welcome to the Hub, poetry is not my best subject, but yours flowed well enough, will you be writing other stuff as well (non poetic?) anyway, I'm following and will look forward to your hubs!

Thanks, John!

Do not be discouraged, my friend, even though nighthag will always be my first, you will always be the "runner up", and there is no dishonor in earning a silver medal.

Yes, to answer you question. I use a lot of writing styles because I get bored easily. I have written many essays, field reports, and research papers in my lifetime, but I am experimenting with poems and rhymes because they are a little challenging and quite fun.

I tend to write serious reports and essays, but I wanted to start out on a light note.

Thanks for stopping by and for giving me your support. I'll be stopping by soon for some more spiritual nourishment. Thanks again, John.

CJ it is rare that I feel an instant friendship with someone on line, but I could swear we used to climb trees together as kids and pick wild plums. One of my favorite biblical heroes was named Caleb, as I am guessing your "bold & intrepid" comes from.

I like your pen name, an apt variation on Teddy Roosevelt's letter to Sprague in 1900.

For some reason that part about pissing people off reminded me of a few verses that use that word.

You know, I don't have the slightest idea what time it is in India. But, just give me a minute and maybe I can figure this out.

Okay, let's see: I live on the West Coast of the United Sodomite States of America, so if a bird flew across the Pacific Ocean toward India that would probably be about a 10,000 mile journey.

Since the Earth revolves at 1,000 miles per hour, that would put you, depending on which part of India you reside in, about 10 hours ahead of me, if you live in the extreme eastern part of India. So, since it is almost noon where I live, you must be getting pretty close to 10:00 p.m. (or later) where you live. Am I even remotely close?

Not at all I am truly humbled by your poetic skills :) .

I have so many questions about how u tell time difference ! hahaha !

First of all is USSA the illegitimate child of the USSR and the US of A ?

If you're still reading after that ridiculous joke ,i live in central India but we have a single national time zone (IST ) or atleast since 1905 ,we have. I have often thought that we do need more than one ! It doesn't seem fair to the people all over the country :) . But as I was saying , we follow GMT + 5.30 as IST . And I've noted that u probably follow GMT -7 to - 8 if ur somewhere in or west of the Rockies ( I haven't been to the US yet ) . Thus is makes the time difference between us of approximately 13 hours give or take an hour.

Which was about 2400 hrs to about 0100 hrs IST :) .

So i suppose yes you were pretty close :)

peace :)

I must admit, I truly enjoy your personality, charm, and wit - you have brought a big smile to my face - and your timing is impeccable, because I thought I had lost my ability to smile (as of yesterday).

Indeed, the United Sodomite States of America is the illegitimate, spoiled-rotten, misguided grandchild of the once great, United States of America, but I am open to the possibility that it's either an evil impostor or evil twin that now sits on its throne. :0)

"Thankyou , its always nice to be enjoyed :). May I ask why you thought you had paralysis of the peri-oral muscles?" - Snigdhal

You know, you really had me rolling on this one - bless you! :0)

The reason for my "paralysis of the peri-oral muscles" is that I lost someone dear to me. Now, you may not believe this about me, Snigdhal, but even though I have a heart of gold, I can come across rather abrasive at times. Yesterday, was one of those times.

I held a precious jewel in my hands, and I squeezed too tight. Sometimes, I really hate being me.

It's not that I want to hurt anyone or offend them, God knows that's the last thing on my mind, but I need to learn to never use a sledgehammer when a little tack hammer will do.

I am a passionate man and I can feel the full force of joy and sorrow - each in its due season. I don't think I can forgive myself for hurting someone I loved.

I am so sick over what has transpired that I haven't been able to eat...I feel such a great sense of loss, yet felt compelled to speak my mind, knowing that in speaking the truth, I would come out on the short end of the stick. Excuse me for a second, I need to vomit.

Okay, that went rather well, so where were we? Oh, yes, we were talking about feathers in the wind.

I just wish, I could let some things go, Snigdhal, but I can't. I'm like a machine - a machine that yearns to love and to be loved, but, at times, I feel my cold steel exterior intruding into my warm inner core. I just feel so heartbroken right now, I can barely think straight.

"p.p.s Is signing off with your time and place a thing at hub pages ?"

Are you referring to the visible IP address? Well, that is shown, but all we get over here is how long ago a post was made and an IP address. I can see the importance of cataloging the time, but I think it is extremely unnecessary to show one's IP address.

I'll be seeing you soon and thank you for giving me back control of my peri-oral muscles! Clever girl. :0)

Best wishes and be well - C.J. Sledgehammer

snigdhal Level 3 Commenter 8 weeks ago

Dear Cj ,

I don't know how you are gonna take this but I'm going to give you some free advice . Brace yourself !

The reason for my "paralysis of the peri-oral muscles" is that I lost someone dear to me. Now, you may not believe this about me, Snigdhal, but even though I have a heart of gold, I can come across rather abrasive at times.

lost someone ? Are you referring to god ? Because if that is true then your faith in him/her is strong enough to know that the person is now at peace and better looked after than here on earth . We have all been through those difficult times that only time and faith can resolve .So if this is the case , hang in there.

As for you being abrasive at times , you may not be aware of it but its pretty obvious that you can be a little too vehement about your beliefs , which is not bad as long as it is not forced over on someone else . The freedom to think , feel ,act , enjoy and repent at our own will is every person's birthright . Those who feel they know better can only guide . The gentlest teachers are often the best and the most successful.

Having said that you are not GOD ! , neither is your time machine ready so you will have to just live and own up to your mistakes . That is another birth right we have been blessed with.We all hurt someone we love sometime or the other . But the beauty of love is that it forgives a lot of things .

As for your cold exterior intruding on your warm core , thats all you my friend (in and out ); And since its all you it can be changed whichever way you like . So apologize to another , forgive your self and change what makes you miserable .

I really am sorry about the free advice but i had to !

peace.

Hi C.J,

Sorry to follow your hub off topic,please pardon me if I am intruding on your conversation. :)

I don't know what happened C.J but I have a good guess.

I just feel the need to say a few things here.

1) Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I have been torn asunder by the word of truth.It is not pleasant it hurts terribly..but if a person's heart is in the right place they will not place any blame on anyone but themselves for the pain that the truth can sometimes have.

If a spiritually mature believer tells me they believe me to be in error then I will pray and seek God about whatever it may be..I don't freak out,get angry or throw stones at that person..I humble myself and go directly to God.

I know people can get really upset when it seems as though someone is attacking a belief system they have had, sometimes for their whole lives..without ever questioning it.

I myself have been accused of judging people..and others like to use the verse,Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged, out of context.

They leave out this verse just below it...

Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

So you see that there is a way to make righteous judgment. It starts with ourselves and making sure we are clean before God at that moment. Making a judgment is merely making a decision about something based on certain parameters. For believers, it's making that judgment from the doctrine found in the Word of God(not the doctrine of men) and relying on the Holy Spirit to give understanding.

In John, we can also see that Jesus taught to judge with "righteous judgement":

Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

The only way to judge with righteous judgment, and make decisions about sound doctrine, is to study and know the Word of God, and use it as our source of judgment, relying on the Holy Spirit to give understanding and discernment.

Jesus said we would know false teachers and false prophets by their fruit. That means studying and making judgments on their doctrine and how they live for Christ or don't..whether someone abides in the Word...or not.

Those who claim and misuse Matthew 7:1-5 and try to stifle the very use of the Scriptures for discernment, and applying them to our lives, do a disservice. Even the very essence of helping others grow in grace and knowledge means, making righteous judgments grounded in the Word of God.

Php 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

Php 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

I'm repeating this one just in case someone missed it..

Php 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

"and in all judgment"

God made you the way you are for a reason C.J..don't go changin' for anyone but God..some of us need gentle,subtle coaxing and some of us need a sledgehammer to the forehead...and quite honestly if they were put in your path then they must needs the latter.God knows what we need and what will work for each of us..all we can do is plant the seed as best we know how and let God give the increase as He sees fit.

Sorry this is long enough to be it's own hub...but I couldn't stand to see my dear brother in Christ, appearing to be so beside himself without offering some encouraging words.

God's blessings and peace to you,

Lois

I do not fault one for saying what's on their heart, Snigdahl - so fire away. :0)

I also know what it is like to feel compelled to say something, so I cannot fault you for doing the same to me. I trust your intentions.

Thank you for your encouraging words and I know your motivation for "speaking your mind" is to be helpful and comes from a good place, so I readily and thankfully accept your advice and constructive criticisms.

"lost someone? Are you referring to god?" - Snigdhal

No, love, I was not referring to losing someone to death and I know the Almighty will never forsake me nor will I ever walk away from Him. Even death cannot separate us; in fact, it will only bring us closer together. I apologize for not making myself more clear, but I thank you for your warm encouragement and kind words.

Yes, I accept the fact that I can be quite vehement with my beliefs. This is true. But, if you knew what I know, you would be pretty vehement, too. :0)

Honestly, I have been trying to tone it down a bit, because at one time, I would have been called C.J. Battle Axe or C.J. Steamroller. Now I just wield a sledgehammer. :0)

Injustice, violence, untruth, and indecency are probably the top 4 things that really bring out the sledgehammer in me.

Even thunder and lightning have a place in this world, but sometimes I feel I do not. I know in my heart that I am not like most people, and they know it, too. I tried to assimilate when I was much younger, but it was hopeless. I must be true to God and I must be true to my post...what else can I do?

I think it is also fair to say that people either admire/love me or loathe my existence - there is no middle ground.

"The gentlest teachers are often the best and the most successful." - Snigdhal

I believe you're right about that, too.

Peace be unto you - C.J. Sledgehammer

Lois:

Your words of encouragement could not have come at a better time.

My spirit is in deep turmoil. It's not that I am not used to pain, God knows I've seen more than my fair share, but it's the pain I feel for someone else's soul; someone I truly and deeply care about.

Lois, Thank you for understanding my condition. I cannot be something other than what I am. I tried to be something else when I was younger, I really did, but it was hopeless.

A long time ago I surrendered my life to our Heavenly Father and His Son and asked Them to use me as They see fit. I told Them that I surrendered my own personal free will over to the Will of the Most High. I gave something away, that day, under my own free-will, and it's not something I can change or take back. This is the way I wanted it...and the request seems to have been granted.

To pick up my sledgehammer and bring it down on injustice, untruth, and indecency, is something I can live with and I don't even think twice about it, but I never dreamed that I would have to bring it down like I did yesterday.

I never saw it coming. It just happened. My spirit was so filled with shock, anger, pain, dismay, confusion, and disappointment, that it overwhelmed me. I wrote without even thinking about what I was writing. I cannot describe the pain that I felt and still feel.

I will read and reread your post, Lois, because this is, I believe, the nourishment that I have been praying for.

How you ever picked up on this scene, I do not know, but you seemed to come out of nowhere and at the right time and carrying the right medicine.

I am so thankful for your generous gift of wisdom, truth, and encouragement - I consider your friendship and faithfulness to be beyond price.

May the LORD of Lords and KING of Kings bless you with the desires of your heart - C.J. Sledgehammer

C.J,

God knows what we are about and He is more than able to accomplish His purposes with or without us.

we can all have regrets about something but we cannot let ourselves forget that ultimately the individual has freewill.We shouldn't be so quick to claim responsibility for someone else's soul..or someone else's spiritual condition.They are responsible for themselves.

As I said before all we can do is sow the seeds of truth.What happens after that is totally out of our hands.

Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Mark 4:14 The sower soweth the word.

If the word falls on deaf ears we cannot be blamed for that.

What if you look at your situation a little differently.What if what happened was a test, that you may have just passed?

Pray and ask God about it.

What if you were being tested to see if you would speak the truth?(Even though it could mean losing a dear friend)

To God be the glory for any gift I MAY have..for it is not me but Jesus Christ in me, for I abide in Him!

I pray that wisdom, truth and love abound in your heart,mind and home forever!

Dear Lois:

You are strong medicine, my friend, sent from above. :0)

It is uncanny (though not coincidental) that a thought drifted into my mind about 4 hours ago, while I was taking a walk after dinner, trying to pray and clear my head.

The same thought that you were sending me in this post!

"What if you look at your situation a little differently. What if what happened was a test, that you may have just passed?" - Lois

You also said:

"As I said before all we can do is sow the seeds of truth. What happens after that is totally out of our hands."

Yes, you are so right; it's in God's hands now.

Please know that I read, read, and reread, your earlier post to me, as it served as a spiritual tonic, which has made me stronger.

Thank you so much, Lois, faithful friend, you have really encouraged me in the Lord and helped me to regain my strength and focus. :0)

May God richly bless you and yours - C.J. Sledgehammer

C.J. I feel a kindred Spirit in you...Like we've been friends for a long time. There is a fine line between being truthful, (sometimes painfully) and just being an antagonist, and the internet is FULL of people who just want to argue for the sake of being right. Argue for the sake of argueing...Not you. I can see that in your writings. You're honest and I feel like I have a good and trustworthy friend in you...and I KNOW, I have found a brother on the front lines. Thanks for having my back right now. I will also say that, even on one of my worst days, should you ever need someone to agree with you or stand by you in prayer, (which is where THE battle is), I'll be there in a heartbeat. I live for such occassions, It's why I'm here! We wrestle not against flesh and blood...but...WE DO WRESTLE! And, as temples of the Holy Spirit of the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, Greater is HE that is IN me, than the lying deceiving, bully that is in the world. In the Mighty, Powerful name of Jesus, "The God of Peace shall soon crush satan under OUR feet!" It isn't a cake walk and it's not all gooey and tender right now in this world. What it is, is a place for the people of God to carry the light and The Sword of the Spirit, (In your case a sledgehammer, in mine, an Ax) which is the Word of God and let the Father position us as HE pleases to deliver, heal and protect HIS OWN! I'm glad to have met you.

Thank you, Roger, but the pleasure is all mine.

You bring your axe and I'll bring my sledgehammer and together with the saints of God, we shall show no fear, because victory is already ours, through Christ Jesus our Lord!

So, let us prepare ourselves for battle and don the full armor of God.

May the God of Peace, touch you with His healing hands and break all the chains that bind you, in Jesus' name. Amen. - C.J. Sledgehammer

SO AM I Sparklea! The battle belongs to the Lord... And SO DO I!

My prayer now is, "Holy Spirit, help me to live according to the Spirit and STAY CLOSE TO GOD!...Fully Armed. Help me to deny my flesh with it's fears, worries and insecurities and REALLY, CONSTANTLY trust God with everything. Lord, I believe. Jesus, I love and follow You. Father, I trust You!"

Thank everyone who is praying... I know that, in Jesus, I have authority, but sometimes it seems that I get bombarded, (as I'm sure we all do), and can't quite overcome, or get the victory, (which I also know that we already have?.)Which is VERY consuming because, with every fiber of my being, I live to serve God.

Roger, "with every fiber of my being, I live to serve God." LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. You and CJ keep going with his sledgehamer and your axe! Living to serve God...everything else falls into place! You two together can change the world with the writings you do from your hearts. Blessings, Sparklea :)

I thoroughly enjoyed your poem and I like straightforwardness (I can be a bit like that myself)! My friend, Faith Reaper, suggested I look you up, I think I'll follow your Hub & see where it goes!

Thank you, Gottabegod. I really appreciate your kind words and for taking time out of your day to pay me a visit.

Please know that I love the Almighty and His Son, Christ Jesus with all my heart, but I am not into partisan politics like a lot of Christians are. I also take a stand for what I believe is right...not what is socially expedient.

It is my contention that many contemporary Christians are a cross between being a follower of Christ and a loyal adherant to the Republican Party, which I refer to as practicing "Republicanity".

I know I will turn some people off because of their political loyalties and eagerness to wave the flag, but my loyalty is with God, not geo-political boundaries nor the secular governments that run them.

Please understand that I am a free thinker and do not buy into a lot of the popular talking points on either side of the political aisle. I personally think all our political parties are an abomination to God and our country, as well as many of our churches, are shrouded in spiritual darkness.

I just wanted to get that out on the table before you sink any deeper into the deep recesses of my mind. :0)

May God be with you and yours - C.J. Sledgehammer

Good hub, C.J...voted up, useful, funny (in spots), beautiful, and interesting. Oh, one question, how does a guy with 1/8" long hair like I have "let it down?" Would that be like, "fallout?" :)

Gottabegod 6 days ago

CJ-Thank you for clarifying those points and guess what, you're still a win in my book, for I, too, feel the same way! There is no 'right person to vote for' that's going to 'fix' our country. Only God can do the fixing and we don't call the shots for Him! I believe we should do the best we can to elect good government, but when it all comes right down to it, God is the one who decides according this to scripture in Daniel. "And he changeth the times and the seasons; He removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise,and knowledge to them that know understanding. He revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness,and the light dwelleth with him."(Dan. 2:20-22)

People are so quick to put their trust in anything and everything except God - and He is the ONLY ONE who CAN be fully trusted!

Oh, and Civil War Bob - if your hair is only 1/8" long then you must get it buzzed, so just consider the clippings as "letting your hair down"!

Thanks, Civil War Bob!!!

Indeed, my friend, 1/8" inch hair is still a little long for a man's man, so perhaps a trim is in your future. Funny, but I always envisioned you with long locks. :0)

Sounds like we may be kindred spirits indeed, Gottabegod.

I am so happy to hear that you have not been lulled into believing the Republican Party is the new savior of America and the church, like so many have been.

At the end of the day, I think the national Republican Party is really no different in thought, word, or deed, than the Democrat Party, but they just market themselves in a wholesome package, but the fruits of their labor are just as sour.

Yes, my dear, I do believe you are onto something here. It would seem that our friend, Civil War Bob is due for a good clipping. In doing so, his impending buzz would satisify my fire-side hair requirement. Outstanding, Gottabegod...I love it!!! :0)

Best wishes, behave, and be well - C.J. Sledgehammer
